Safety, Education and
Emergency Fund
Mission Statement:
The Estero Community Safety, Education and Emergency Fund exists to:
Promote safety and health through education and the dispersion of safety
supplies to residents and visitors to the Estero community.
Provide additional comfort and service to those who require the assistance of Estero Fire Rescue.
As a first responder, Estero Fire Rescue is uniquely qualified to recognize and address the immediate needs of victims and their families.
Service Projects
The following projects are planned using resources from the fund:
- The acquisition of smoke detectors, car seats, helmets and other safety equipment for citizens in need. (Approximate cost $2,500)
- The development and implementation of a “Risk Watch” program at Pinewoods Elementary. This is an FCAT compliant safety education program that takes an all-hazards approach with elementary school students. (Approximate cost $1,000)
- Home friendly ladder to public assistance (checking and changing smoke detectors). Fire truck ladders are designed for heavy duty and can cause damage inside homes. (Approximate cost $850)
Long Range Service Projects
The following projects are being considered for implementation through the fund in the future:
- The acquisition of a new or the enhancement of an existing Fire Safety House. This is a mobile classroom that allows individuals to test their safety awareness.
- The development of a safe driving program targeted towards Estero High School students.
- Expanding the Citizens Emergency Response Team (CERT) program in Estero through the acquisition of equipment and educational materials. The CERT program prepares individual communities and groups to cope with and recover from disasters as efficiently as possible.
Estero Communities and the Safety Fund
Special recognition goes to the communities of Copperleaf of the Brooks and Riverwoods Plantation. Their desire to “give back” to the community of Estero was instrumental in bringing the Safety Fund into existence.
Both
neighborhoods have held fundraising events and have made generous contributions
to the Safety Fund in the past, and are promising more support in the near
future. Their commitment to local charities and to the people of Estero is
to be recognized and applauded!
